This film should finish with a recital of Wilfred Owen's poem. Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori. Owen was an officer who fought on the front lines and witnessed the horror of it. The gas attacks, the limbless men, the stench, the rats, the lice, the leaden weariness, the infernal noise and mortal fear. He died in action in the last year of the war. His anti-war poem was published two years later.
