I really enjoyed this film. The world was nicely built and set up. It seems people didn't like the ending, but i think it really leaves things open for a sequel (or a prequel.

I enjoyed it, but it felt like it could have been constructed a lot more tightly. Probably the standout example of that is the healer: for the life of me, I don't know why she was in the film, and her presence actually creates some problems. In no particular order. How is her power useful to Marcus? Her 'healing' is a 1-to-1 transfer of injuries/illnesses from one person to herself, and Marcus apparently uses her to roll back some kind of chronic lung for some reason, the only time we see her ever cough is when she was actively healing him. On a similar note. why is anyone impressed by her power? If we had seen her take Connor's cut from his arm, and then saw it rapidly knit itself back together once it was on her body (ie, some low-tier Wolverine healing factor) then that would be one thing. It might be painful for her to take injuries from others, and even explain her drug dependence (kind of like how Painkiller Jane has a massive healing it doesn't make the injuries hurt any less, hence the habit she got the name from) and make forcing her to use her power a far more interesting moral dilemma. If the act of healing Connor's mother would have been horrific but nonfatal agony, then it turns it from 'Would you take a random but innocent life to save a loved one? to 'Would you torture a random but innocent life to save a loved one? The latter seems to have a lot more potential as a moral dilemma. But regardless, that brings me to the next issue. which is that her presence needlessly complicates the end of Connor's arc. The entire reason he went into crime was for money to pay for medical treatments for his mother despite her opposition, and it ended with him choosing to respect her wishes and let her pass peacefully rather than resorting to increasingly immoral acts in the name of saving her. The healer was completely unnecessary to that arc, as described. The fight in the garage ended with Marcus dead and Garret on his way to filling the criminal void left behind. I
