I've seen the movie and I liked how it was done but I didn't find depth in the story. That war was a disaster and I have not seen anything that shows how irrational and absurd it was. I appreciate all the people who work in this kind of movies but I expect from them a deeper and more serious commitment. In the end the movie left me indifferent.

My step grandfather Mac (an Irishman to the core, who was really the grandfather I knew) fought in WWI. I do remember seeing a photograph of him in his uniform when I was a little girl - but that is about all - and he never talked about any of those years. He taught me how to play the piano and grandpa knew about a 1000 old Irish ditties. I loved him very very much. Grandpa played piano in a Chicago speak-easy in the 20's. I loved my grandpa and really still miss him - I do corned beef and cabbage for him on St. Pattys day and give him a good Irish toast.
