Gosh, this movie gets me every time. Which is why it is my favorite. To be honest, Christine never deserved the Phantom. Because she could not see past his distortion. Didn't really take the chance to get to know him. She didn't even bother. Because she saw what society said he was. He's not made of pure evil. He's only the way he is because that is what society did to him. He has never known anything but cruelty and violence because that is what the world showed him every since he was a little boy. But when she came into his life, he wanted her because she was everything he was not. Beautiful, kind, and loving. Something that isn't shaped because of hate and violence. And he wanted to be better. he fell in love with her. Everything he did was to protect her. And because of her, he could see the world wasn't always bad that it had good in it. And he learned to have kindness, to love. But she betrayed him, broke and shattered his heart three times mind you, after everything he did for her. Yes he tied Raoul up, but I don't think he truly would have killed him because deep down he knew it would make Christine hate him forever. And he didn't want that. She denied him any kindness by choosing Raoul. Instead he had to go and hide again, hide away from the world. While she went and lived on happily with Raoul. She makes me mad to be honest. I just wish I could jump into the screen and say, I love you. and be there for him.
