Anyone else notice the basement decor is influenced by the green and red- the two primary contrasting colors from Van Goghs Night Cafe. Its a bar scene with a pool table and lighting that purveys a sickliness that also pervades the family. The bar reference adds to the drunken logic and desperation happening in that room. Just awful. Another note on the Art is the charcoal figure drawing on the wall in their bedroom. As Martín gains a hold over the family- the scene where Steven exits the shower and sits on his chair, nude and vulnerable-cornered if you will. He sits resigned and echoes the man in the drawing-nude and cowering in the shadows-cornered.
